Brian Lin, CPA - The festival date varies with each year on the Gregorian calendar, falling on the 15th day of the first lunar month. Just wait a few weeks after New Year festival to wait this annual celebration to kick off. Celebrated all over China, it prompts revelers to wander the streets lugging lanterns and uttering riddles. According to ancient legend, the lanterns will protect people from being hauled off into the Chinese sky by evil spirits. The festival has evolved over the years to where there is now lantern decorating competitions. Hundreds of lanterns made by the artists can be seen on the festival, and many many shows will also display in special zones. Apart from lantern show, many other traditional activities and games will be available, such as lantern lighting ceremony, small goods display etc. Bringing such a wonderful event to Atlanta means a lot. On this special occasion, we will not just recognize the strong relationship rooted in common interests, but also promote and strengthen the linkage between China and US, China and Georgia, China and Atlanta.
Sabringna 周爽龙, Wuhu City, Anhui Province, PRC - For the customs of our Lantern Festival, all we Chinese celebrate it in a same way, that is "Eating Tangyuan" and "playing lanterns which are made by ourselves". But for different areas, people usually celebrate in some different ways. Take my hometown as an example, we celebrate it only by eating tangyuan. (Not every house does it). And with the passage of time, we do not make lanterns now, for it is not popular. To be frankly, there are more and more festivals are forgotten by us with time flies. It is really regret. Lv Bingbing, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, PRC -Every year, during the annual lantern festival, the Confucius Temple in my hometown Nanjing will celebrate this significant festival by displaying numerous colorful lanterns which will attract visitors from all over the world. The whole site will be extremely charming when decorated by various lanterns. All sizes of lanterns can be found with different appearance including flowers like lotus, animals like tiger, fruit like tangerine and so on. The whole temple and Qinhuai River are ablaze with colorful lanterns. The whole celebration is a very exciting thing. I can experience strong festival atmosphere with all the others and enjoy vairous beautiful lanterns which can be bought with a not so high price. Also, snacks are sold to visitors.All in all,celebrating lantern festival in Confucius Temple is really an joyful memory. Bing Bing
Cang Li, President Atlanta Sichuan-Chongqing Association - Chinese Lantern Festival is a day when a bright full moon hangs in the sky. There should be thousands of colorful lanterns hung out for people to appreciate. At this time, people will try to solve the puzzles on the lanterns and eat yuanxiao (glutinous rice ball) and get all their families united in the joyful atmosphere. It is wonderful to have a Chinese lantern festival in Atlanta, specially for my kids.
