The Atlanta Chinese Lantern Festival - America’s First

Decatur, Georgia -- Friday, November 06, 2009 -- the Atlanta Chinese Lantern Festival Committee. The Atlanta Chinese Lantern Festival Committee brings America its first authentic Chinese Lantern Festival. This 2,200 year old annual Festival is a must see exhibition for everyone regardless of age, mindset, or opinion.

As America’s first Chinese Lantern Festival it’s aroused global attention to metro Atlanta and the region as a destination tourist attraction. Many international public and private tourist authorities and, scholarly organizations will advertise this event to 2 billion people. Some countries offered event affiliated relationships.

80 Lantern Craftsmen will work three months building 2,900 lanterns that measure from 1’ to 290’ long by 1’ to 5-6 stories high. These awesome lanterns come in small, medium, and giant sizes. Small lanterns will light the pathways while medium size lanterns will identify the locations of concessions, giant lanterns, entertainment venues, and, guest services. 25 to 35 acres of land and over 1-1/2 miles of walkway are needed for the exhibition.

Some wonderfully colorful lanterns shall brighten the night while others, in soft glow, light the pathways. The hours of viewing and enjoyment will pass very quickly. Large Lanterns of familiar cartoon characters from children’s stories and fables will present familiar, fun, and otherworldly look to most children.

A variety of materials are used in lantern construction though most are made of silk over wire frames. Glass, ceramics, plastics and other materials are also used. Each lantern is a temporary construct. One or more giant lanterns may be as long as a football field. Other giant lanterns will illustrate a puzzle or riddle. Each giant lantern is uniquely different. They depict places, people, animals, location, insects, philosophy, myth, or events. Our Festival features the world’s first giant lanterns devoted to China’s 14th and 15th Century voyages of discovery by the famous Admiral Zheng He, a eunuch.

Known as a family event, the Festival’s aura attracts everyone from 1 to 101 years old, including friends, lovers, colleagues, or diplomats. Lantern Festivals are known for their positive impact on all types of relationships. So, if you have someone, know someone, or want someone that’s important to your success and happiness…visit with them. Lantern Festival tours are considered unspoken public proof of their status.

Lantern Festival’s combines Valentine’s Day in meaning, Christmas in action, and it’s a time to give thanks, not worship, to the elderly and ancestors. It’s Mothers and Fathers Day, Halloween, school, art, museum, and culture. Most importantly it means basking in the light of Good Luck, Happiness and Success.

Our Festival starts according to the ancient tradition of 15 days following the Lunar New Year of the Tiger, 4708, in the Month of the Tiger, between Yushui (rainwater) and Jinzhe (excited insects). It will end 71 days later in the Month of the Snake during Lixia (summer begins).

These dates translate as Saturday, February 28, 2010 until closing on Sunday, May 9, 2010. Each evening’s opening is planned for dusk until closing around 10:30 PM. Current site planning is for set Stone Mountain Park.

The Lantern Festival tradition started in 212 BC by Qin for whom China is named. He renamed himself Shih Huang-ti (the First Sovereign Emperor). He’s best known for being buried with an army of more than 6,000 terra-cotta soldiers and horses.

The Committee received visitation request from Asians in the Diaspora of Europe, the Americas, Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. Also received were request from those interested in US-China history in the making, and still others interested in Zheng He.

The celebration of America’s first Chinese Lantern Festival will last for several years, and will be the subject of a documentary film for television and motion picture theatres. Atlanta and the region shall become “Good Luck” destinations for investment, tourism, education, and government relations.

Many international scholars of World, European, American, and Asian (Chinese) history will convene here to discuss China’s inventions, travel, and, contributions to civilization. They shall arrive periodically for two or three years to perform chores necessary to reinstate China and India’s accurate global histories and contributions. At the end, 2-5,000 scholars are expected for 4 days of final collaboration and concluding discussions.

This $5,200,000 event is supported by sponsorships, donations of in-kind contributions, volunteers, equipment, supplies, transportation, and services. For information on your support or other interest, please email your inquiry to: atlantalanternfestival@gmail.com or to info@atlantachineselanternfestival.net

Metro Atlantan’s ask “Why this festival and why now?” Chinese Lantern Festivals are famous for their positive values, about family and history, education, art, culture, respect, and, fun. It needs recognition and viewing outside China and Asia, and, lowers annual attendance cost to the Diaspora and Western culture.  Furthermore, China is growing rapidly in scale and well beyond the last 200 years. The Festival’s impact automatically creates a common public space to dialogues between us for greater understanding. These are the keys to global peace, prosperity, and harmony.
